What is CrimeStoppers, Inc.

"Morris County Sheriff's CrimeStoppers" is a program designed to encourage cooperation between the citizenry and the law enforcement community. It offers the citizens of Morris County direct and easy access to their law enforcement community and incentive in the form of anonymity and reward.

How Does It Work?

Citizens who have information relating to crimes, criminal activity or wanted persons (fugitives) can call a 24 hour telephone phone, (973)COP-CALL or 1-800 SHERIFF. Their information will be taken by a "CrimeStoppers" operator and forwarded to the proper law enforcement agency.

How Is Anonymity Maintained?

When a person calls "CrimeStoppers" they are assigned a confidential code number, which becomes their only identity. At no time will anyone ask their name.

How Can Someone Collect A Reward Anonymously?

After the caller has been given their confidential code number, they are asked to call back at a future date identifying themselves by their code number only. Again, no name will be asked. When a person becomes eligible for a reward, all arrangements to receive it are made through the use of their code number as the only means of identification necessary to collect the money, which is paid in cash.

Who Administers "CrimeStoppers"?

"CrimeStoppers" is administered by a volunteer civilian Board of Commissioners who oversee the routine business affairs, control the finances, determine reward amounts and the methods of payment.

Where Does The Reward Money Come From?

Morris County Sheriffs CrimeStoppers, Inc. is a non-profit corporation funded by contributions from the business and private sector at no cost to the taxpayer.

How Much Does The Program Pay?

"CrimeStoppers" will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment (opposed to conviction) of criminals. The amount of the reward is determined by the Board of Commissioners.

Does "CrimeStoppers" Really Work?

Morris County Sheriff's CrimeStoppers, Inc. is affiliated with "CrimeStoppers International". The concept originated in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1976. Since that time the program has grown to include over 1,000 programs such as ours throughout the United States and Canada. "CrimeStopper" callers have provided information which has resulted in the solving of thousands of cases and millions of dollars in narcotics and stolen property. The conviction rate of 'CrimeStopper" cases is 97%.
