The Denville Police Department is investigating numerous theft from vehicles and two residential burglaries. These incidents have occurred primarily in the Indian Lake section of town between the dates of July 18th and July 27th. The thefts from vehicles appear to be committed by the same actor(s). It appears that the actor(s) walked through the Indian Lake neighborhoods checking for unlocked vehicles. Upon finding vehicles unlocked the actor(s) removed valuables, particularly cash, laptops, and GPS unit etc.
Two residential burglaries are being investigated in which the owners of both residences left their homes for a brief amount of time to come back and find someone had entered their home. Upon entry, the actor(s) went to the master bedroom and stole jewelry.
The Denville Police Department would also like to remind their citizens to keep their homes and vehicles secure. Windows and doors should be locked. Deadbolts should be utilized to secure the exterior doors to your home. Also keep your vehicles locked and valuables out of the car or at least not visible. GPS units are frequently stolen vehicles. Remove your GPS mounting units from the car windows when unattended, as they are a great indicator that you have a GPS system in your vehicle.
