9012 - Motor Vehicle Burglary, Madison

Madison Police are investigating an incident that occurred on Saturday July 18, 2009 at approximately 7:oo PM. Victim parked their vehicle at 17 Park Ave and went into a nearby apartment. When they returned to their unlocked vehicle 5-10 minutes later, they observed a Hispanic male inside their vehicle. Suspect had a 12 pack of Heineken beer under his arm and appeared intoxicated as he was rifling through victim's purse which had been left in the vehicle. When confronted by the victim's boyfriend, suspect spoke in broken English indicating that he was looking for a beer. Victim's boyfriend grabbed onto suspect as he fled from the vehicle and was able to retrieve victim's GPS Unit and cell phone. However, suspect escaped from his grasp and fled on foot with $200.00 cash. Victim's boyfriend chased suspect and subsequently lost sight of him until suspect emerged from an alley riding a red bicycle. In the course of scuffling with the suspect, victim's boyfriend sustained injuries including a broken hand. Suspect described as a Hispanic male, 5'10", thin build, late 20's, and last seen riding a red bicycle. Any agencies with similar incidents or additional info please call Det.
