On July 17, at 0737 hours, a 57 year old female, Boonton resident was struck by a vehicle, as she attempted to cross Myrtle Avenue (RT. 202) near the intersection of Main Street.

Witnesses observed what is described as either a RED (Fire Engine Red) pick up truck with
white letters across the tailgate spelling out “AMERICAN” in white letters. Police believe, there are additional letters on the tailgate, perhaps, American Landscaping, American Paving, American Contracting or, something similar. The suspect vehicle has also been described as possibly, a newer model, dark maroon, extended cab with flared wheel wells.

The victim was attempting to cross Myrtle Avenue from the east side, approximately 25 feet
north of the intersection. She stepped off the sidewalk and was struck by the perpetrator’s vehicle and, thrown to the ground.

According to witnesses, the suspect vehicle was traveling east on Main Street. Made a left turn onto Myrtle Avenue at a fair rate of speed. Struck the victim with the front and passenger side of
the vehicle and w/o stopping, continued north of Myrtle Avenue.
Two (2) detectives from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office found the victim lying, in the roadway shortly after the crash. They stopped and rendered aid until Boonton Police arrived. Police along with Boonton Kiwanis First Aid Squad and Paramedics from St. Clare’s Hospital responded. The victim appeared to have suffered head trauma, she was treated on the scene, then transported to St. Clare’s in Denville. MCSD CIS UNIT and the MC Prosecutor’s Office are assisting Police with the continuing investigation.

Police believe, there are more witnesses out there who may have seen something of value. The roadway was heavy with rush hour traffic. Contractors with similar type vehicles as the ones described above, should check their equipment for possible signs of involvement.
